The Flemish-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is undoubtedly the most prominent choreographer of his generation and has been awarded several prestigious prizes. His works defy all attempts at categorisation and excels in virtuoso dance, intelligent theatre, and rich humour and seriousness – beautifully set within musical poetry. Cherkaoui created Labyrinth for the Dutch National Ballet. Especially for the opening of the LiteSide Festival he created this excerpt of his successful choreography.

The opening program starts at 8 pm and contains the dance performance of Het Nationale Ballet, a few short speeches and a song by Karsu Dönmez. The official part ends with refreshments and a Global Meet, Greet & Dance Party. Later that night Karsu will give a full concert.

Karsu Dönmez is a multi-talent; she is not merely a singer, but also a gifted pianist, composer, arranger and lyricist. She has performed on many local and international stages, including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, North Sea Jazz Festival and twice at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York. She is currently working on her debut album, but has already released her first CD, a live registration of her sold-out concert at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. She writes and composes her own songs, which are a mix of jazz, blues, funk and ethnic influences. Because of her stunning looks, beautiful voice and extraordinary piano playing, Karsu Dönmez is generally considered to be a musical super talent.

Program & tickets

LiteSide festival opens on Friday August 19 at 5 pm. On Saturday and Sunday the festival starts at 2 pm. Every night the festival closes with a global meet, greet & dance party with the most popular dj’s of the Amsterdam club scene. The complete LiteSide program will be available from July, 20. The online presale will start at the same time at www.liteside.nl. Tickets also will be available through the Free Record Shop in the Netherlands and Belgium.
