Pilgrim: „Karsu sang and played incredible piano for us during a dinner in her father’s restaurant KiLiM. I was so impressed that I immediately invited her to the LiteSide Festival 2008, which gave her career a great boost. Now she has played twice in Carnegie Hall, has made a live CD, performed on TV and is contracted to Mojo Music. By popular demand we have invited her, accompanied by violin, to return with her newest concert to the LiteSide Festival this year.” Although ANTIX makes a very different kind of music Pilgrim sees the same kind of promise in him. 

„The hip hop music that ANTIX makes is really different. He mixes it with world music and could easily be described as a singer-songwriter because his lyrics are as political and socially conscious as they are sensitive and poetic. I believe that he will make it and am delighted to already program him this year in LiteSide.”

ANTIX lives in Los Angeles (USA) and has recently brought out his first album: Flammable Grammer. The first single from the album, “Deep Within” is an ode to his beloved mother who died too young from cancer in 2002. Thanks to his parents  Australian and Jordanian backgrounds, and being brought up in America, England en France, his music is woven through with sounds and emotions from different cultures.

The DJ’s of Club Lite, a new Amsterdam club on the Jan van Galenstraat that will open early September, guarantee a fantastic party every day of the festival in the Openbare Verlichting hall. DJ’s Shanto, Iradi and Kareem Raïhani will be supported on Friday and Saturday by a live set from the Austrian One Ideal Boy and Staffan Sladik. From war torn ex-Yugoslavia via the Netherlands to Austria, the One Ideal Boy knows all about the complexity of trans-cultural identity and cosmopolitanism. Champions of various disciplines these two combine live Dj sets and synchronized VJ images to make a post industrial thumping club night. The show they will bring to LiteSide is titled Mahawkinahwak. On Sunday 21^st August Marc Lendfers will give the workshop 5Ritmes®

to live music with Lies Beijerick on Didgeridoo and the man himself playing drums and percussion.

LiteSide Festival 

The sixth edition of LiteSide Festival takes place from 19 through 21 August in Westergasfabriek Culture Park in Amsterdam. A broad range of international and multidisciplinary contemporary mixes of Oriental and Western art forms, including theatre, dance, music, visual art and film will be presented. Every evening the festival will close with a fabulous club night featuring (inter)national DJ’s. The festival program further includes Karsu Dönmez, ANTIX, the National Ballet, a special edition of the Nachtgasten featuring amongst others Achmed Akkabi, known from the film Rabat, Tarek Halaby, Radhouane el Meddeb, David Zambrano, Makiko Ito, Cabaret group MES and more. The outdoor program includes the free showing of the film Rabat, a market, spontaneous performances, visual art and the Oriental Lounge where you will find complete meals including vegetarian and Iftar, snacks, drinks, and chill music.
